Start-up Visa paused; replacement pilot announced but not launched

IRCC stopped new Start-up Visa applications in 2026 and says a High Impact Start-up Pilot will replace it.

July 1, 2026Verified against official sources on 2026-10-01

Status

The Start-up Visa Program stopped taking most new applications after December 31, 2025. Applicants who held a commitment from a designated organization issued in 2025 could apply until June 30, 2026. IRCC's page now says the program is paused and not accepting new applications.

What comes next

IRCC has said a High Impact Start-up Pilot is intended to replace the program. As of October 1, 2026, we found no launch date, rules or application page on an official site. Applications already submitted continue to be processed, with a very long queue.

The self-employed program

The federal Self-employed Persons Program has not accepted new applications since April 30, 2024, and IRCC describes the pause as indefinite.
