What the work involves
Main duties
- Research the feasibility, design and performance of electrical and electronic systems
- Design circuits, components, systems and equipment
- Prepare cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications
- Supervise installation, modification, testing and operation
- Set maintenance and operating standards and investigate failures
- Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers and other engineers

Employment requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering or a related discipline; a master's or doctorate may be required
- P.Eng. licensing by the provincial or territorial engineering association is required to approve drawings and reports
- Registration needs an accredited degree, three or four years of supervised experience and a professional practice exam
